What educators are saying

My students loved learning about a variety of scientists that they had never heard of before. I supplemented in videos of the scientists to make it more engaging. I used this to introduce a scientist research project.

Description

This is a mini lesson to use in your Science Classroom at the beginning of the year.

Students will get to draw, learn, and discover what a "real" scientist does, and what they might look like.

This mini-lesson looks into different fields of science such as geology, meteorology, and botany. The lesson will describe a type of scientist and give examples of real-world scientists and what they contributed to their field.

The following types (and real-world examples) of scientists are included:

-Botanist (George Washington Carver)

-Biologist (Sylvia Earle - marine biologist and Mark Benecke - forensic biologist)

-geneticist (Barabara McClintock)

-geologist (Kathryn D. Sullivan - geologist, astronaut and oceanographer and Marie Tharp- geologist and oceanographer)

-meteorologist (Jim Cantore and Alfred Wegner)

-physicist (Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Stephen Hawking)

-seismologists (Lucille Jones)

-zoologist (Jane Goodall and Stephen Irwin)

What you get:

~Google Slides version in which you can add scientists, delete slides you do not want to use and edit directions

~A PowerPoint Show (not editable)

~A PDF contains all information from the PowerPoint plus the Activator and Summarizer Worksheets to use along with the PowerPoint Mini Lesson.

This resource was UPDATED 8.21.22 in order to include more modern scientists and real-world pictures instead of clipart. The old files for this resource are still included in the zip file.
