Description
Engaging activity about where the world's freshwater is located. These slides zoom in on the 3% of the world's freshwater and the various forms it takes (Ice, Groundwater, Lakes+Rives, Soil Moisture, etc.). Students record the percentages and then are guided through converting them into lengths which they divide up a 3 meter long piece of receipt tape (3 meters represent the 3% of the world's freshwater). Students then have to measure, shade, label and illustrate their tape. Analysis questions are provided on the accompanying worksheet.
Interesting activity that gives students some math and measuring practice, allows them to be creative, work in groups, and then think about the the importance of freshwater. My students always enjoy this activity and it keeps them engaged.
Materials needed for activity:
Rolls of Receipt Tape (easily available at Office Supply stores or ordered online)
Colored Pencils
