This is an attention hook built to model why students need to learn critical reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills. The vocabulary and grammar simulations model the importance of what we do in a language arts class before calling it by name. Sharing a common experience helps to show the real world applications. The third game ties a combination of historical facts together in a way that helps to demonstrate why author's purpose is so important to consider. It would also be a good way to introduce persuasion, propaganda, or nonfiction.
