Description

Creative poetry writing can evoke passion in students! This villanelle writing unit is designed to teach students about the villanelle template formula. Students will watch and read a variety of villanelles using digital links. Contemporary villanelles are included as well as student and teacher examples and classic poems. Poetry analysis is an important part of AP exams.

Students will study the elements of villanelles through a series of slide instructions. The presentation may be edited. (Slides that contain clipart have been converted to pings in accordance with the clipartist terms and can not be edited.) A worksheet to write the villanelle is included in pdf and docx. A rubric for scoring and writing the poem is included in pdf and docx and may be edited.

Add this unit to your poetry month toolbox and enjoy creative writing!

Students will write their own villanelle using a writing worksheet, a villanelle rubric, and villanelle writing tips.

A simple rubric may be used in peer to peer poetry evaluation and will help make sure they have specific elements included in the poem they are writing.

An exit pass finishes the unit. The exit pass can be edited to fit your class.

Students may have the opportunity to share their poem during Writer's Chair.
