Description
Topic of this video: Factoring by Looking at Structure
Unit: Radicals, Exponents, Complex Numbers, Factoring
Course: Algebra 2
Video Duration: 22 minutes and 33 seconds
This video:
- Goes over two ways of factoring a quadratic when a >1. The first way is more traditional by splitting the middle term and factoring out the GCF. The second way encourages students to look deeper into the problem and notice that if we substitute an expression for a single variable, then the expression is quite easy to factor. Then, you would need to substitute back.
- Goes over factoring a quadratic form by substituting for easier quantities
- Another example shows a more difficult example using the same technique
- Goes over and explains an example of factoring out a GCF of the first two terms, the second two terms and the third two terms, then using grouping, rewrite the expression as a product, and factor further
Hello! I created this video for students to learn this topic independently. This video is a tool you can use to teach, preview, reteach, or just have as an additional resource. The video uses student-friendly language and explains topics as simply as possible. If you’re teaching remotely, this video is invaluable.
The video consists of my hand-written pdf file of my notes, and as I explain each concept and example, I point an arrow to the work I’m explaining. In the videos, I do not show my face, nor mention any names, nor show any photos, just the math is shown and my voice is heard. Thus, this video can be used in any classroom. All videos are in English. When you purchase this, you will receive a zip file which includes the video and the pdf of the notes which are explained. What you see as thumbnails for this product is the pdf file.
I usually assign a video as homework and ask students to write down everything for their own notes. I then check their notes as evidence that they completed the assignment- but of course, you’re welcome to use this resource in any way you want. During in-person schooling, I have a flipped classroom and my videos are crucial to its success. In remote learning, I use the videos for every topic I introduce, and students find them extremely helpful.
I hope my videos can help you out too!
