Your ELA students will have so much Valentine's Day fun, that they won't even realize they are practicing parts of speech! This activity is similar to Mad Libs™, but created with you and your ELA classroom and students in mind--I have made sure there are plenty of grammar terms to review. In this fun Valentine's Day activity, your ELA students will be rewriting famous lines of Valentine's Day / Love poetry using their knowledge of grammar.
"How do I love thee, let me count the ways..."
"O' my luve's like a red, red rose newly sprung in June."
This Valentine's Day Mad Libs™ style activity includes:
- PARTS OF SPEECH fill-in-the-blanks
nouns
verbs
adverbs
past tense verbs
-ing verbs
interjections
prepositions
conjunctions
idioms
plus other silly prompts like "favorite male celebrity" and "teacher's name" (uh oh!)
- FAMOUS LINES OF POETRY: students will then take the words they filled out on the first page and fill them in on the second page. This will recreate a Valentine's Day poem they can read aloud to each other. Always brings the giggles!
- Includes a page with the original lines of poetry
