    Description

Add rigor and meaning to Valentine's Day with these easy prep lessons and activities that your middle school or high school English students will love. This pack includes up to 2 weeks of materials that will help you SURVIVE the holiday season while your students THRIVE!

Student Experience: Students will explore the theme of true love as they read a poignant nonfiction piece about a long-lost love and/or a poem that reminds us of importance of friendship. You can choose whether students do both, or you can use the text options for different levels of students or different classes you teach. Then students will demonstrate key comprehension skills by answering the text-based questions. Set students out on their own with the short research project. They will love finding out about famous love stories and sharing their findings with the class. The research project is a nice way to close this little unit as students are able to showcase what they've learned! Every lesson is standards-based, classroom-tested, rigorous, and grade level appropriate for middle or high school level English students to cover many standards during the holiday. Use them all or use pieces to provide differentiation to your different groups!

Surviving Valentine's Day True Love-Themed Pack Includes:

-- a nonfiction text with a real-life story of true love from WWII; short answer and MC question styles provided (Levels 8-11)

-- a poetry lesson Bronte's "Love and Friendship" with creative writing task (Levels 8-11)

-- a short MLA research project with rubric, Famous Love Stories (Levels 8-12)

--40 figurative language task cards, printable and digital format

    --BONUS: Valentine's Day classroom posters

Classroom success stories from other teachers who have tried this resource:

♥ "Enjoyed these activities. It is nice to be able to change things up occasionally, especially for a holiday and these activities are great way to do that and still work on important skills and concepts. We especially liked the nonfiction text work and the task cards. Thank you for making this holiday themed resource for older students."

♥ "My 10th graders had a blast with the famous love stories assignment."

♥ "We had a lot of fun with this today! I used the figurative language task cards and turned it into a little team competition. My students loved it, and were challenged by it on quite a few of them! We also read the non-fiction true love story and I got lots of positive feedback on that. Even the boys liked the story! Always love your products, Julie!"

♥ "Another great bundle from Julie! Your work is always well-designed and comes with lots of activities and ideas. This Valentine's package certainly gives enough choices to fill the class period. I can't wait for February 14th to come again. Thanks for your hard work!"

♥ "Loved this! It helped me get out of my mid winter rut! They kids had fun learning about the couples."
