What educators are saying

Vocabulary has been a big topic at my school this year and this resources has been really helpful with what we are trying to accomplish with my students. Thank you!

Description

Building academic language and subject-area vocabulary is so important, and getting your students to remember all of those important words can be challenge!

This is a graphic organizer and personal vocabulary booklet that gives them another way to build their knowledge of any topic or theme you teach.

GRAPHIC ORGANIZER

This half-page organizer is great for introducing new words to your students. They will write the word at the top and then:

  • indicate how familiar they already are with the word
  • write the definition in their own words
  • draw a picture
  • write synonyms and antonyms
  • use the word in a sentence

I suggest using the graphic organizer with important words that your students will need to remember and use across topics or subjects. A digital version of the graphic organizer is provided in Easel.

VOCABULARY BOOK

  • On each page, students will
  • write the word (or phrase)
  • add their own illustration, diagram, or other visual
  • write a definition
  • categorize the word as an idea, person, place, event, or process

The cover has space to write the topic and add an illustration. There is also a table of contents where students will list all of the words in their booklet. This is a great tool to use when teaching a specific topic that has a lot of new vocabulary for student to remember.

Includes EDITABLE TABLE OF CONTENTS in case you want to pre-type the words your students will be learning.
