What educators are saying

Vocabulary is a weakness for my students, so this helped them have a better understanding of how to find "clues" to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words.
Thank you for this resource. My students struggle with context clues so I continually spiral to review.

Description

Support students in understanding how to use context clues without extra prep with these differentiated guided notes. Students will be focussed and supported in walking through using context clues as you teach or they watch the video provided with the guided notes scaffolding. Guided notes are provided in three formats with little, medium and high support to easily accommodate all learners.

Build a routine of scaffolded notes to save more time for your prep and better support students by purchasing the guided note bundle for reading skills.

Teaching how to utilize context clues to decipher unfamiliar words empowers middle grade readers to independently expand their vocabulary, enhancing their reading comprehension and self-reliance.

The lesson slides/ video walk students through the learning objective, vocabulary necessary for understanding, and the steps involved in using context clues to find the meaning of an unknown word. Students are then taken through one round of practice before completing another on their own.

Product Includes:

  • Teaching slides for context clues
  • Recorded video lesson with slides
  • Three versions of guided notes with differentiated levels of scaffolding

This flexible, direct instruction is great to introduce context clues skills or to refresh student understanding. You can choose whether to teach the lesson ‍ using the provided slides, or to have students use the video. Using the video allows students to learn at their own pace.

Purchasing additional reading skill guided notes as a bundle won’t just save you time and money, but supports differentiation and builds routine. Use each skill lesson as a repeating routine in your curriculum, or assign individual students the skill they most need to gain competence with for true differentiation with the videos. Videos and guided notes are also great for sub plans or a flipped classroom model.
