This is a fun Valentine's math review activity with 2 different heart puzzle activities. The focus is on reading, writing, and comparing decimals to the thousandths.

This product was made for my 5th grade math students. You could also use it as a challenge activity for 4th graders, and as a remedial activity for 6th graders. It was created to help my students identify/read decimal numbers to the thousandths.

In the first set of puzzles, students will match decimal numbers to their corresponding word names (forms). The word forms are numbered (1-32), and the decimal numbers are lettered (a-ff). Students should match the puzzle pieces together and write the LETTER of each decimal number with its corresponding word form NUMBER on the recording sheet. For example, students will match “three thousandths” to “0.003”.

In the second set of puzzles, students will match decimal number place value in word form to the number that is underlined in a decimal number. The decimal numbers are lettered (a-ff) and the value word form is numbered (1-32). For example, students will match “0.187” (with the one underlined) to “one tenth”. In other words, students are identifying the value of each digit.

Student recording sheets are included for both puzzle sets. Answer keys are also provided.

There is a bonus activity where students can choose any two puzzle pieces and compare the two decimal numbers. A student recording sheet is included, but you could also have students record
their answers in a math notebook or on a piece of paper.

A second bonus activity is included for students to choose six puzzle piece decimal numbers. Students will then put them in order from smallest to largest. Again, the recording sheet is optional. You
could have students do this in a notebook or on a sheet of paper.

All puzzle pieces are in ink-saving black and white, but they look great printed on color paper!
