U.S. History, 1620 - 1865, 16 chapter/units of Vocabulary Quizzes

This PDF contains 16 unit/chapters of U.S. History vocabulary term quizzes covering 1620-1890. These quizzes align perfectly with the California State Standards for History and most California textbook adoptions. Each quiz focuses on one chapter of U.S. History from the founding of the colonies through Reconstruction. Each of the 16 quizzes covers a standard unit of history such as “The Revolution” “The Constitution” “The Age of Jackson” “The Mexican-American War” “New Movements in American Culture” “The Civil War” and “Reconstruction”. Each quiz typically contains 20 terms and definitions pertaining to a specific unit, however the “Slavery” unit and a couple others feature fewer than 20 terms and definitions.

I like to assign these words and definitions at the beginning of a unit, have the students copy them into their notebook. Then, between a week to a week and a half later, while we progress through the unit, I schedule a vocabulary quiz as a sort of mid unit comprehension check. Students who ace these quizzes are clearly on pace to do well on the unit test and students who fail clearly need extra attention.
