Types of Real Numbers Jigsaw Activity

This is an activity that has been a hit with my classes! Students are split into groups to research and present information about a certain type or set of real numbers. Students can use any online search engine to find abundant information about real numbers. Then, students present the information to the entire class or take it back to a different group of students as in a traditional jigsaw activity. By the end of the activity, all students in the class will have information about six different types or sets of numbers:

*Natural Numbers
*Whole Numbers
*Integers
*Rational Numbers
*Irrational Numbers
*Real Numbers

*a research guide with questions to guide students in the research
*A Type of Number sheet for jotting notes or completing to turn in.
*Answer Guides for each type of number with selected information.
*A graphic organizer diagram to place the sets of numbers in context with one anther.
*A graphic organizer table to place information about each number type or number set.
*Classifying Real Numbers Sorting Activity to give students practice and reinforcement with sorting types of numbers into sets in which they belong.
