Description

Looking for STEM activities that are easy to incorporate and engaging to students? This is a complete STEM Unit to go along with the nursery rhyme "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". These cross curricular STEM activities include an engineering challenge, science experiment, math centers and retelling options! Low prep, easy to implement in class - adding STEM to your lesson plans has never been easier! Check out the preview for more details!

Included:

Science:

Crystal Stars – Grow star shaped crystals using borax and hot water! Make one for the class to observe, or make one for each student!

★ Why Do Stars Twinkle? - use a flashlight, aluminum foil and water to discover how our atmosphere makes stars seem to twinkle!

Technology:

★ QR Codes with links to YouTube videos with alternate versions of the rhyme – these are Safeshare links so no ads will display. There are also qr codes for What Are Stars? and Nickelodeon Dance Party (tune is Twinkle Little Star). .

Engineering:

Students create an air propelled rocket to visit the little star!

Math:

★ Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Puzzle – cut out and laminate puzzle. Students put the numbers 1-10 in order to make the puzzle.

★ Pattern Block Stars – students use pattern blocks to create stars, then count and record how many of each shape they used.

★ Roll & Cover Games – students use 1,2, or 3 dice according to their mat and cover the sum.

★ Addition Search – Choose sums to 10 or sums to 20 to differentiate for your students. Students use a magnifying glass to find the addition equations and record them on the matching sheet.

Retelling activity:

Full color version of rhyme and a black & white copy for students. Students can circle sight words or specific letters on their copies.

Cut & paste sequencing sheet.

★ Invitation to Create – ideas for an open-ended process art project.
