Description

This is a collection of 24 printable worksheets that address ALL of the 3rd Grade Reading Literature Standards. They are very versatile, and you may use them throughout the year with almost all fiction books. They can be used in a variety of ways, including as morning work, practice with a specific skill, introducing a new skill, use during guided reading, or as homework. Please note: this collection includes nineteen original/unique printables, while the additional five are “generic” versions of some of the original nineteen to allow for expanded use and higher-level thinking.

Students will enjoy a variety of activities, including becoming the teacher to ask/answer questions from text, recording questions/answers in a 3-column format, making a comic strip to recount a story with dialogue, making a character "profile" to highlight a character’s traits, showing how stories, dramas, and poems are built using a construction theme, recording reading strategies in both checklist and note card form, comparing and contrasting stories by completing a graphic organizer, and using other sentence frames and organizers to show understanding of literature.

Topics in this collection include all of the third grade reading literature Common Core standards:

Asking and answering questions to understand text, recounting stories, central message, character motivation, literal vs. non-literal words/phrases, point of view, text illustrations, comparing and contrasting stories by the same author, reading and comprehending text on grade level, and the design of stories, poems, and dramas.
