    Description

I absolutely love John Green's novel, Turtles All the Way Down! It is my favorite of all of his works, which is saying a lot! Obviously, as an English teacher, I'm biased, but several of my students have commented on how much they enjoy reading the novel as well (especially when we move on to other books)!

These are all of the comprehension worksheets that I assign as we are reading the novel. I usually start off by making the students read before handing out the worksheet, and then as we go along in the unit (and I trust them to actually read) I will give them the worksheet while they read.

Almost all of the worksheets are two pages (one page printed front and back) I find this to be the best amount of work to assign with each section of the novel. The last worksheets that cover the end of the novel, are one page each and I usually pair those together when I assign them!

Here is how I divide up the novel!

    • Pg. 1-9
    • Pg. 10-28
    • Pg. 29-47
    • Pg. 48-113
    • Pg. 100-130
    • Pg. 130-150
    • Pg. 150-172
    • Pg. 172-200
    • Pg. 200-222
    • Pg. 222-249
    • Pg. 249-257
    • Pg. 258-275
    • Pg. 275-End

There is only one section of the novel that does not have a worksheet. This is section 150-172. Here, I assign the Second Coming Poem Analysis. The students will analyze the figurative language and poetic devices within the poem, as well as the theme, diction and mood. I find it very important to take this poem apart, and make sure the students understand it, because it is referenced so many times throughout the novel.

If you choose to skip this activity, that's totally fine! The information covered within that section of the novel will be on quiz questions, if you purchase my Turtles All the Way Down Quizzes (this is how I make sure the students still read that part of the book)!
