Description

Use the magic of Microsoft Excel to generate countless examples to demonstrate concepts, stimulate discussion, and build student confidence and competence.

All you have to do:
1. Open the downloaded Excel file.
2. Click on one of the available lesson tabs.
3. Press the appropriate key(s) to generate an example (F9 for PC; Command + Equal for Macs).
4. Demonstrate, discuss, review, and learn.
5. Then with a simple key press, generate another example.

This file consists of three types of activities:
“Discussion” activities to demonstrate a concept and build student confidence and understanding.
“Practice” activities which generate examples for student input (whole group of individually).
“Printable Worksheets” for independent practice and/or evaluation.

Activities include:
> Guidelines to using the activities, including instructions for capturing generated images to create your own worksheets and quizzes.
> Reflections Discussion: Generates a quadrilateral and its image with the line of reflection (line of symmetry) drawn. Quadrilaterals are reflected either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Each quadrilateral has color-coded corresponding line segments to assist students.
> Reflections Practice: Generates quadrilaterals without the line of reflection drawn so students can interpret the reflection, describe it, and/or draw the line of reflection when images are projected onto a drawing-friendly surface.
> Reflections Worksheet: 20 practice problems for students to draw the line of reflection for each.
> Rotations Discussion: Generates a quadrilateral and its image rotated 90 degrees or 180 degrees. Each example has a line of rotation. Each quadrilateral has color coded corresponding line segments to assist students.
> Rotations Practice: Generates rotated quadrilaterals as above, but without the line of rotation drawn.
> Rotations Worksheet: 20 practice problems.
> Translations Discussion: Generates a quadrilateral and its translated image. Corresponding points are labeled and corresponding line segments are color coded. A dotted line connects a point on the original with the corresponding point on the translated image to assist students in describing the translation in terms of up or down, left or right, and how many units in each direction.
> Translations Practice: Generates a quadrilateral and its translated image as described above, but without the dotted line to assist them.
> Translation Worksheet: 10 practice problems.
> Transformations Mixed Practice: Generates a quadrilateral and its image. Corresponding points are labeled and corresponding line segments are color coded. Students determine whether the transformation is either a reflection (horizontal, vertical, diagonal), rotation (90 or 180 degrees), or translation (up or down, left or right, and how many units in each direction).
> Transformations Mixed Practice Worksheet: 10 practice problems.
> Keys for each worksheet.
