Presented at NCSS Boston 2014.
I have been doing the Toy Entrepreneur project for years now. It is a true highlight of the year in our economics class.
This simulation is my ENTREPRENEURSHIP unit in my economics course. The great thing about this simulation is that it can be completely tailored to your needs. You can do the whole thing as a unit or just some of the lessons. It's up to you.
This is what Toy Entrepreneur is all about:
*There is a step by step lesson plan for each day of the simulation.
*Students will create a brand new toy. Their idea of a toy will be "pitched" to a panel of "Sharks". Their presentations are modeled after the TV show Shark Tank.
*They will write a persuasive essay, which is turned into their presentation later.
*They will learn about marketing and create a market survey. These are distributed to elementary school children. Their responses help in the creation of the toy.
*They will create a "start-up" and come up with a name for their new business and a logo.
*They will learn about advertising and create a commercial to enhance their presentation.
*Using an Entrepreneur workbook, they will have four separate lessons on the importance of Entrepreneurs!
What is to like about this simulation? Toy Entrepreneur has it all. It's engaging and has a focus on these important skills of today:
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
Collaboration
Initiative and entrepreneurship
Accessing and analyzing information
Effective Oral and Written Communication
