Tortoise and the Hare: Fast or Slow/ Presto or Largo
- PDF
Description
This was a quick assessment I created to check understanding of tempo while listening to songs. The first graders learned "presto" and "largo" vocabulary terms while kindergarten discussed fast and slow tempos.
The pictures make it easy for real life connections when teaching tempo. Prior to the assessment, we retold the story of the Tortoise and the Hare (I love integrating literacy as much as possible!!). When students listened to various songs, they made a bunny with their fingers throughout the lessons to show fast/presto and a turtle with their hands (sign language turtle) to show slow/largo.
Full proof way to get a fair assessment of their understanding if you use hand signals to prep them. One half of sheet uses fast/slow terms while other half uses presto/largo terms. This can be used as differentiation, as well, within a single classroom.
