Description
Over the years, To Kill a Mockingbird has become one of my favorite novels to teach. Since this is a long novel, it can be hard to figure out the pacing and to develop meaningful activities that keep students engaged for three-hundred pages! As a new teacher, this was something I really struggled with.
Now that I've been teaching for more than a decade, I wanted to share my best lessons, resources, and tools for teaching To Kill a Mockingbird.
All together, you will find 18 resources with more than 360 pages and 300+ questions! Mix and match the resources, tools, and lessons to meet the needs of your students.
If you were to purchase each section of vocabulary individually, you'd spend $50.61, but with this bundle, you spend $39.99, which saves more than $10! That's like getting three resources for free!
Here's all the resources included in this bundle:
- Lesson Plans: Over the years, I have crafted and designed this collection of 21 unique and engaging lessons.
- 31 Writing Journals: Helping students connect with a text is a constant struggle for language arts teachers, which is why I created these writing journals! Each one helps students engage with the text and build connection.
- 36 Task Cards: Keeping students engaged during a long novel unit can be challenging, which is why I love these task cards so much!
- Character Map: The rich cast of characters fills this novel with community, but the number of characters can overwhelm students, which is why I created this handy character map!
- Vocabulary Activities: Harper Lee's language elevates her novel, so I collected 144 vocabulary words from the text (24 words for each section). I gathered everything teachers need to teach vocabulary alongside the novel.
- Crash Course Listening Guides: My students love Crash Course, and these listening guides help them engage thoughtfully with the videos.
- Anticipation Guide: An anticipation guide is one of my absolute favorite ways to engage students in a new unit!
- Unit Planner: As a new teacher, the thing I most needed was help with pacing, which is why I wanted to share this detailed unit planner with you.
I've also included five text pairings to help students synthesize across texts and genres!
- "Credo" by Neil Gaiman
- "Caged Bird" by Maya Angelou
- "Sympathy" by Paul Laurence Dunbar
- "Of Our Spiritual Strivings" by W.E.B. DuBois
- "We Wear the Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar
To make these resources as flexible as possible, most of them are included in editable Google Slides and Google Forms. For those digital tools, TPT will automatically create a folder in your Google Drive.
