Description

Description: Use this social story to teach your students how to share toys with brother, sister, or friends. This is a 5-page story with color pictures and simple phrases to engage your youngest students or your older students with autism or other developmental differences. Children are taught to say “my turn”, play for a while, then say “your turn”, and give the toy to the friend. They are taught to wait for their next turn or to find a new toy to play with.

Inspiration: The story was made specifically for a 3-year-old boy who had a difficult time sharing toys with his sister. He was taught to take a break (like timeout) if he took toys away from his sister.

Targeted Group: Young talkers (2 – 3 years old) through older children with developmental delays or disorders. Ideal for use in early intervention, preschool, pre-K, kindergarten, special ed classroom, or speech therapy.

Use: Read the story with the child often to help the child remember the concepts. It is important to read the story as a behavior modification after the child takes a toy from a friend or becomes upset when it is time to share, to help the child make the connection between the behavior and the social story.

Directions: You will need a color printer with ink, copy paper, a laminator, a hole punch, and a metal ring to bind.

• Print the story in color.
• Laminate the pages, either separately or back-to-back.
• Punch a hole in the top left corner of the pages.
• Bind with the metal ring.
