Description

Many bright and capable students don't succeed like they should because of deficits in their executive skills, such as time management. By the time these students are in high school, these skills can be so insufficient to meet school demands that it can take many months or years to help them get where they need to be. Starting early is key to helping these students succeed and that is why I have started this series on executive functions.

This interactive lesson on time management takes this skill down to an elementary level in ways that are useful and accessible to them. It teaches students to begin to work on estimating how long different tasks take to complete (a skill that is vital as they get older) and how to determine what they have time for and what they don't.

Each lesson in this executive function series includes a mini intro PowerPoint to explain executive functions. It is the same intro for each lesson, so if you have purchased another lesson from this series it won't be necessary to start with it.

Overview of Time Management PowerPoint :

• The lesson begins by explaining the importance of having good time management skills with visuals and examples.

• Students are then shown a story of a student who struggles with time management

• Students do an activity to practice estimating and timing how long simple tasks take (with accompanying worksheet).

• Students then practice estimating longer tasks with interactive quiz questions.

• Visuals show how there isn't always enough time to do everything we want to and prioritizing is necessary. Students practice deciding if there is enough time to do certain tasks.

• Ends with interactive review questions and a follow up worksheet to take home. The worksheet has them estimate and then time different activities at home.

• A set of task cards are included to help reinforce estimating time throughout the weeks following the lesson.

BONUS- Optional worksheet to reinforce skills. Students have to choose which tasks are most important and cut and paste them to fit into the available time they have. This is especially beneficial for visual and tactile learners.

Thanks,

Eve Coates

Note to Teachers: This runs a little long and may need to be split into two sessions, especially with the younger kids.
