Throw a Party Spreadsheet and Chart in Excel

With the Throw a Party Spreadsheet and Chart activity, students receive a list of needed party supplies, shop for them at Walmart, and create a spreadsheet and a 3-D pie chart. Students will enjoy shopping online and choose their own food, drinks, party favors, and supplies for the party.

This resource is differentiated so you can use it with every student in your class. Students should have some experience with Excel and know how to write formulas and create charts. The videos will walk students through creating the spreadsheet and the chart, but it will be much more challenging if they have no experience working with Excel.

Included with this resources are:

· Written directions

· Two screencast videos – one for students who can shop online and one for students who can’t (beginner ELLs, low readers, etc.)

· 2 Examples – Example 1 is for students who can do the online shopping. Example 2 provides data for those who can’t shop online.

· An editable rubric

· How to Use, Working with and Grading ELLs and Special Needs, and some additional info about ELL levels.

Skills used in this resource:

• Write multiplication, addition, and subtraction formulas
• Format cells
• Select chart data that is not side by side in the spreadsheet
• Make a 3-D pie chart
• Insert an image into a chart
• Outline and move a chart.
• Use Print Preview to confirm that spreadsheet and chart are on one page.

This resource can be used in class or for online or remote learning; post the materials on your LMS and you're set!

My students typically need 1-2 classes to complete this project.
