Description
This 3rd Grade Spiral Review Language Activities Bundle includes 250 no prep spiral review printable pages that will have you covered for the entire school year. They are great for 3rd grade homework, morning work, centers, and more.
Are you looking for an easy way to consistently review the 3rd grade language skills throughout the year so you are not reteaching concepts in the spring or before testing? Do you want highly-effective and useful tasks to give your students as homework or morning work without needing to scramble to find something each day? The NO PREP, Spiral Review Packets will provide you will all that and more. They are completely aligned with the 3rd grade Common Core ELA Standards, but will work perfectly in schools/states that do not teach using the CCSS.
I created this resource to meet a need I saw in my own classroom. As a third grade teacher, I found that although my students would demonstrate proficiency in a skill or concept at the time it was formally taught, they would often show misconceptions when we would review for the standardized tests in the spring. I knew this stemmed from those skills being taught in isolation and that my students needed more spiral review.
Like you, one of the greatest obstacles I face as a teacher is finding the time to “do it all.” Therefore it was really important to me that I created something that was both efficient and effective. I really wanted a consistent method of quickly reviewing the grade level concepts on a regular basis in a manner that did not distract from our new learning. I also wanted to be able to easily identify students who were struggling with a skill to further drive my instruction when planning new lessons and forming small groups.
Here’s what I came up with...
I created a collection of 25 simple pages per month with a consistent layout that offers familiarity for students and their familes. I designed them so that teachers have lots of options on how they wish to use them. Students can have their own individual copy to write on (perfect for homework, morning bell work, center work) or teachers may use just one copy at a center and have the students record their answers on the included answer strips or in a notebook.
The page layout for recording their answers allows for quick assessment and greatly reduces the time it takes to correct the students’ work. To maximize my ability to identify specific areas of weakness, I put great care into the layout of the questions and created both a whole class and individual student item analysis sheet which make it very easy to collect data to drive instruction.
Because my goal was to offer my students a consistent spiral review of the grade level skills. I feel it is very beneficial to quickly go over each page together as a class. For that reason the PDF was specifically created in a horizontal format so that I can easily project a copy of it onto my interactive whiteboard for a visual, engaging mini-lesson.
I have been successfully using these as homework Monday through Thursday (along with a nightly reading log). I then dedicated a few minutes each morning to going over them together and having the students self-correct their homework using the projectable version.
On Fridays, I give the students the extra page for the week to complete independently in class and correct those myself using the item analysis sheets. This shows me how the class is doing as a whole and provides me with data that then guides my instruction.
I’m really excited about these because not only are they meeting a need I have in the classroom, but also because they drastically reduce the amount of time it normally would take me to plan, prep and correct nightly homework.
If you choose to use them as in classwork, then you can eliminate prep entirely by projecting the page on your interactive whiteboard and having them record their answers on paper or dry erase boards.
