What educators are saying

This was a very good purchase to use with my diverse students. The students were very engaged with it.

Description

Elementary math students are still trying to correctly compute and remember important math skills and standards -- it sometimes seems that mastering word problems on top of everything else is out of the question!

Students need daily practice with a variety of word problems!

This third grade common core math workbook can be used a few times a week throughout the entire school year. This workbook contains over 90 word problems aligned with third grade common core math standards. The standard associated with the problem is written on every page. The word problems assess standards from six common core math units. This workbook, used throughout the school year, provides a great preview of what will be taught next and then provides a great review of previous units.

This workbook highlights seven steps in successfully figuring out and solving all word problems. These steps are written on each page as a great visual reminder. This workbook helps teachers purposefully provide students with the tools to master all of the "tricks" of word problems merely by providing them with regular practice. Students will become aware and learn to recognize:

- numbers in written form
- extra, unnecessary information in the problem
- problems with multiple-steps
- key words that often provide clues to what operation is needed to solve

This workbook includes word problems that cover the following third grade common core math standards:

- place value and rounding
- addition and subtraction with a focus on subtraction across zero
- multiplying with multiples of 10
- basic multiplication and division
- area and perimeter
- measurement - time
- measurement using liters, grams, and kilograms

This workbook can be printed and used as quick, daily practice that will keep both the teacher and the student focused! It is a great assessment tool! It can also be used independently as a problem-solving station. These problems encourage critical thinking, student explanation, and, of course, problem solving, helping to create a rigorous classroom environment.

Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
A square with side length 1 unit, called “a unit square,” is said to have “one square unit” of area, and can be used to measure area.
Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems, and represent whole-number products as rectangular areas in mathematical reasoning.
