Description

This is a Reader's Theater for the entire class. It was designed to be read or used as a play - depending on the time you have. This is the BILINGUAL script intended for dual immersion Spanish and English classes. There are 18 speaking parts but opportunities to double up or expand them allow you to fit it to your class/group. It is based on the Wizard of Oz. In the script, Dorothy is the type of girl who always gives up when things get tough until a tornado comes and whisks her away to the Land of Oz She’s ready to give up there until the munchkins volunteer to take her to see the wizard in Emerald City. Together they travel the Perseverance Road meeting others and overcoming problems to meet him. When they do get to the wizard they learn that the Perseverance Road was the solution to all of their problems. They had to retrain their brains and their attitudes in order to learn how to be successful. It can be performed at any time.

I use it to bring up and discuss the idea of perseverance and how we limit our own abilities by giving up. There is a small writing assignment after for students to respond to. There is also a smaller reader's theater on the same subject on my site. Reader's Theater is a terrifically fun way to improve your fluency. My scripts are mainly black and white with only the occasional color picture on front to make them easier and cheaper to photocopy.

Although I do not advertise this as a 3rd grade script, if you are working with them - it would be a nice challenge. If you like this script you should look at some of my others. I have this same script in all English for regular classes. Let me know what you think!
