What educators are saying
Description
Offer your students a visual introduction to the slave trading that took place for nearly 300 years between Europe, Africa and the Americas. This slide show on “The Triangle Trade and the Middle Passage” has dramatic illustrations and is accompanied by 8 pages of detailed notes with over 90 facts that you can use to narrate the 22-slide presentation. Areas covered by the slide show include:
- Atlantic trade routes
- Capturing and selling African slaves
- Conditions and death on slave ships
- Slave auctions
- Working conditions on sugarcane plantations
- Dates of the ending of slave trading and of the abolishment of slavery
Please note that this product does not include details about slavery in the American colonies. Instead it focuses on how and why slaves were captured and used as enforced labor on early Caribbean plantations, which later set the stage for the use of slaves in the Southern United States in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The slide show is appropriate for junior high school, although a middle school teacher could edit some of the more graphic details for younger audiences. The narration is available as a PDF and the slide show is formatted in both Apple’s Keynote and a Microsoft’s PowerPoint.
