The Secret Life of Bees MSL/Final Exam/Common Exam Practice

This activity is an awesome way to have students practice for the MSL's (Measures of Student Learning) or Common Exam. The assignment features an excerpt from chapter one of The Secret Life of Bees.

Students will answer ten multiple-choice questions that vary between complexity; some of the questions are basic reading comprehension questions while others require students to look at the context, draw inferences, or identify literary devices.

For the constructed response portion, students must describe the mood of the excerpt,and support their claim with at least three pieces of textual evidence. A rubric is included. The rubric shows students how they'll be graded while also providing the teacher with grading instructions.

The key for the multiple-choice questions is included, but responses for the short-answer will vary.
