Description

In this semester-long English or Social Studies project, inspired by the movie Pay it Forward, students will, in groups, research and develop a "kindness project" that will reflect the values of kindness found in the movie. They can then share their projects here: https://globalpayitforwardday.com/share-your-story/

The hope is they will have gained a sense of community awareness and shared responsibility for themselves and their wider community.

The best part about this project is that it encourages families and the wider community to be involved in the students' learning. As part of their research, students will be asking questions relating to the feasibility of their projects and they may need help with certain aspects. For instance, if they want to develop a food drive for low income families, they will need to know what types of foods are acceptable (i.e. non-perishable, or produce and canned goods, etc). At this point they are only developing their ideas into a well thought-out plan that will be pitched via video in a creative way.

Skills developed include, but are not limited to: increased social awarness, sense of community, co-construction and cooperation, research skills, formal writing and presenting (oral and visual). The Pay it Forward Kindness Project by Shauna Ratapu is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported License.
