What educators are saying

Great supplement to my Holidays around the World unit which incorporated folktales. Used this to add a little spice to our country of the day! Highly recommend.
I teach at a ballet academie and my students perform the Nutcracker. This was perfect for them, they loved it. THANKS!

Description

This readers theater is a great addition to Christmas festivities for readers in the grades 3-6 levels. This is the classic legend of the Nutcracker. I have taken care to make the script engaging. My students really enjoyed becoming the characters of Fritz, Marie, and Nutcracker, but it was Godfather Drosselmeier that really stole the show in my room. This readers theater allows students to work on fluency and expression as they read it aloud. There are many speaking parts to make sure that each child gets a chance to have a voice. I also included a text-dependent comprehension assessment sheet and sheets to help student identify vocabulary and context clues. As I wrote the readers theater, I added stage directions to enhance the understanding and to help students to visualize the actions on the stage. I think this would be a lovely companion to the movie The Nutcracker for a compare and contrast activity.

If your kids love this resource, check out my Christmas Carol Readers Theater and my Legend of Sleepy Hollow! I also have fairy tales and fables readers theaters. This is a great way to teach elementary students about the classics, while they become a part of them!
