Description

This activity teaches students about England's first attempt to colonize the "New World" in the late 1500's. Students read about the Roanoke expeditions sent by Sir Walter Raleigh and complete a timeline sorting activity. This download includes:

  • A one page reading passage about the Roanoke expeditions. This passage begins with the failed 1585 colony led by Ralph Lane. It then goes on to tell about the 1587 colony led by John White that eventually disappeared leading to the mystery of the "Lost Colony."
  • A timeline sort activity - students cut out 7 events and glue them in the correct order on the timeline to retell the story.
  • An answer key for the timeline.
  • A force copy link to an interactive Google Slides version of the activity so that students can complete the assignment digitally.
