    Description

These three study guides, one for each act of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest contain over 80 open-ended questions to ensure student understanding of the entire play.

Each editable Google Doc guide begins with a fill-in-the-blank chart for the characters present in the act and then questions about the setting and the identity of the characters in the act. Then, there are 20-30 standards-aligned open-ended questions including key plot details, characterization, identification of literary devices, author's purpose, tone, language, as well as some opinion and making predictions.

The guides can be assigned as independent work while reading, in pairs or groups, or used as discussion questions to guide reading the play aloud. I use these semester after semester and they truly help my students understand the tiny details and nuances Wilde used in the play!

    ALSO INCLUDED FOR FREE:

Introduction slides about Oscar Wilde and the play that include background information about Wilde's personal life, education, and reputation, the explanation of earnest vs Ernest, detailed descriptions of the characters, setting, and time period. They also include information about Queen Victoria and the Victorian Era, including social class and appearance. The Slides end with some key vocabulary and some of Wilde's epigrams.

With this bundle, you're ready to introduce the text and then read and discuss all 3 acts with your students! No prep - all you need is a copy of the text.

All guides and the intro Slides are editable!
