What educators are saying

i focus a lot on the pillars when I teach about Islam, this goes very well when reviewing with the class

Description

This product on the Five Pillars of Islam includes an interactive power point as well 10 pages of printable handouts based on California State Standard for Social Science 7.2.

The lesson includes five printable handouts, one for each Pillar of Islam, as well as a jigsaw activity (3 pages), two note taking guides as well as a six slide PowerPoint that covers the beliefs associated with each Pillar of Islam. See the slide by page by page breakdown below for the complete contents of the 19 pages that are included in this product.

The presentation slide show consists of one title page, one hub/homepage and one content for each of the Five Pillars of Islam image/home screen) which allows the teacher or student the opportunity to explore the Five Pillars of Islam in any order they choose. The great thing about this PowerPoint is that it does not have to be delivered in a linear fashion. Simply click on the desired pillar graphic on the home screen to access the desired material and then use the return link in the bottom right hand corner to return to the hub/home slide.

This lesson can be delivered as a teacher led activity while the students fill in note-taking guide or the concept map. Alternatively the note-taking guide or concept map could be completed by the students first, after reading the textbook or a print out or digital version of the slides, and then the PowerPoint can be used to check for whole class understanding. You can even call students to the white board to pick the hidden link of their choice for review.

Once each pillar has been explored through the PowerPoint the teacher can break the class up into groups for the jigsaw activity. The Five printable handouts are designed to reinforce and compliment the PowerPoint presentation and ideally they would be distributed to each home group in the jigsaw for additional reference. The slide show contains clear instructions for the jigsaw activity which asks the students to critically examine each of the Five Pillars and their function within the religion of Islam.
