Description
What if everything you learned in school related to the real world? Welcome to Chocolate Chip Cookie School, a fun curriculum that teaches “critical thinking through cookies.” Students deconstruct America’s favorite cookie to get thinking creatively about learning and life.
ABOUT THIS MODULE
100 years ago the chocolate chip cookie did not exist!
In The Chocolate Chip Cookie Revolution, students explore the exciting deals, legends, promotion and businesses that made the cookie an American classic -- well before it became so easy for things to go viral via the Internet and TV.
The module will take 1-2 hours, depending on how in depth the discussion goes.
Get the 5-module bundle — a 5-10 hour lesson pack — and save! It's perfect for homeschool, summer school and even adult school.
TEACHING THIS CURRICULUM
- This can be a solo exercise or a group activity.
- There are no page numbers so you can omit or add pages, if desired.
- It would be exciting as a learning experience and discussion, followed by a visit to a grocery store or instruction to go online to research chocolate chip cookie history.
- Teach it all or exclude some pages, based on available time and student learning levels
- Print in color or black and white.
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS
With The Chocolate Chip Cookie Revolution, students of all ages will:
- connect the dots with real-world concepts—such as how one idea created a food revolution
- discover the power of storytelling, how legends spread and how to analyze them
- learn the power of promotion
- compare stories of successful cookie entrepreneurs
- consider the art of deal making
This lesson ends with standardized recipes and the publication of the Toll House cookbook.
Ideas for Advanced Exercises / Discussion
Interesting topics for research and further investigation would be invention and industry, women inventors, marketing, business, and connecting the dots backwards to discover how things are done or how they came to be.
The Amazing Trader Joe's Critical Thinking Cookie Challenge is next in the series -- where students put their own analysis skills to the test (and a taste test!)
