Description

This is a lit log for a read aloud or for a guided reading , literature circle, or novel study for The Color of Home by Mary Hoffman. This picture book is a great story to teach children about refugees and their adjustment to a new country. The beautiful illustrations by Karin Littlewood greatly add to the text in describing the young refugee's feelings about leaving his homeland and coming to America. This book is a great resource to help students and staff have compassion for students and their families who are refugees and/or adjusting to a new culture.

The main focus skills of the lit log are: using the text to answer questions and make inferences, describing characters, and explaining how illustrations contribute to what is conveyed in the text.

This lit log can be used as a guide for a read aloud or for direct reading instruction (guided reading, literature circle, or novel study). It can be used for distance or classroom learning.
