The Ceramics of Africa Slideshow and Notes

This lesson includes a slideshow that covers pottery from Egypt, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Benin, Mali, South Africa, and more! This slideshow also includes six contemporary ceramics artists from Africa. There is a guided note packet included that students can use to follow along. This lesson can take multiple class periods depending on discussion with students.

Topics covered in this lesson include:

• Ancient Egypt
• The Nok, Yoruba, and Edo peoples
• The Mangbetu, Asante, and Ewe Peoples
• The Bamana, Igbo, and Lobi Peoples
• Contemporary African Pottery: Ladi Kwali, Zizipho Poswa, Andile Dyalvane, Magdalene Odundo, Clive Sithole, and Ranti Bam

All resources will be downloaded as a .zip file. PDF files are included in the .zip download.
