The Boston Tea Party - Historical Small Group Reader's Theater

This script was written for 4 students. It was written to teach or reinforce a lesson about the Boston Tea Party of 1773. In the script, The students are having a test today on the Boston Tea Party. Everyone has studied except Alex. He didn’t think he needed to because he already knew about regular tea parties. But the Boston Tea Party was a protest by the colonies against the British Tea Act and NOT a real tea party. Chad, Rose, and Sarah tell him all about it and how the Boston Tea Party led to the American Revolution. By the end Alex thanks them for setting him straight so that he won’t sound silly when they talk about it in class. There is a short writing prompt at the end of the script.

I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place.
