Description

The Battle of New Orleans Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is a 10 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 22 questions based on an online War of 1812 documentary video clip and the History.com website.

Students will first be directed to watch a 6 minute video clip on YouTube which explains the lead up to the battle, the actual engagement, and the eventual American victory. Following that, students will be directed to the history.com website were they will first watch a video about Andrew Jackson and his leadership during the battle. His recruitment of local pirates, the construction of defensive works, and his desire for payback against the British are all reviewed. Finally, students will read an article about the battle which will provide a detailed accounting of the day of battle itself. The blunders committed by the British commanders, the overpowering firepower of the American forces, and the destruction of the British command structure are all covered. The activity ends with a discussion about Andrew Jackson's new found fame following the battle and his eventual path to the White House.

This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
