Description

For much of recorded history, the story of humankind has been one of survival by adaptation. Thrust into a harsh, unforgiving world, our ancestors managed to eke out their survival by constantly staying one step ahead of the elements – modifying their shelter, food, clothing and settlement patterns to the capricious forces of nature that threatened to destroy them.

Using the 5 Themes of Geography* as a backdrop, this two-part worksheet examines the changes and continuities in human adaptation. Part I serves as an ID/Short Answer exercise that will provide students with a solid understanding of Geography’s 5 Themes: What is the difference between Location and Place? What makes human beings migrate, and what do they carry along the way? Part II is a more interactive ‘Match ‘Em’ activity, designed to help students identify the origins of cultural characteristics – government, art & music, fashion, medicine –they might otherwise take for granted.

Perfect as an in-class activity, review sheet, discussion-starter or homework assignment!

MashAvz strives to create academic material that is intelligent, fun and appealing to the eye. We hope that our curriculums will stoke your students’ intellectual curiosity and love of the arts, while instilling in them a deep respect for the world’s diversity.
