    STUDENTS WILL:

    refer to parts of stories and poems when answering questions about a fictional text, and describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections.  This includes:

    • identifying which paragraphs contain specific story elements (i.e. setting, characters, problem, solution)
    • describing the impact certain sentences (e.g. dialogue) have in the story 

    use text features and search tools (i.e. subheadings/section titles, keywords, sidebars, picture captions, labels, and line numbers) to answer questions about an informational text.  This includes:

    • using subheadings to determine what a section is about and where to look for specific information
    • determining what kinds of information can be found using specific text features, and the reason why an author uses such text features
