Description

Teenagers in the Digital Age: Teaching Teens How to Manage Technology has been improved to meet the current issues with social media in our society. This resource is filled with 39 pages of projects, worksheets, classroom posters, and handouts focused on educating students about the effects of social media on the teenage brain. Students can design their own projects and learn how to use social media in productive ways. Resources include:

All of the lessons provided in this unit contains resources that can be used for any class or subject. Feel free to adapt any of these lessons for your classes. Some lessons take multiple days and can be scaled down if there are time restrictions in your schedule.

Lesson one is a community project that can be done in an assembly to bring awareness to the school community about appropriate use of technology. It can also be used for the classroom as a project. This lesson contains reflection questions about videos that allows students to think about the impact of technology in their own life. There are three videos that focuses on bring awareness about technology on teenagers. See list of resources for more details about the videos.

Lesson two allows students to practice technology management by doing a research project on a topic they want to learn about. The teacher’s guide will help you guide students through the project and teach students how to manage technology.

Lesson three challenges students to think about how they can manage technology by using data. Students will do a two week assessment of how they manage technology. Students will read Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation article for homework. Then they will answer questions in an jigsaw activity.

Lesson four will entail prepping students for a school-wide survey and programming. Students will create a play or present the findings of their research to the community.
