    The students are provided with a little bit of background information before looking at the picture. Then the student must look at the nonverbal cues along with the background information to answer the questions. The background information is purposefully ambiguous so that students may draw their own conclusions.

    • Students read the text message on the cell phone. Then they read three possible responses and circle the best response. After the student circles the appropriate response, then they write how the other person might respond to that text message.

    Text Message Response Worksheets

    • 10 pages Black/White

    • Students take a more in depth look into the text message scenarios. Students are required to analyze all of the text message responses. Then write how the other person may feel and/or what the person may do next.

    Text Message Written Expression Worksheets

    • 10 pages Black/White

    • Students are asked to reflect on their own situations and write a paragraph about it.

    In the social scenarios, the students read a story about the characters in the picture. There are three discussion questions on each page. The students may discuss these questions in the small group setting and compare their answers. Print on card stock and laminate for durable use.

    In the discussion questions, the students answer five written questions about the social scenarios. The students may compare their answers in the small group setting.

    The use of real photos will help increase your students' understanding of nonverbal cues.

    These activities are meant for teenagers and the scenarios are outlined above. All topics are school appropriate.
