Teaching Jokes & Humor Using Riddle Jokes - Speech, ASD, ESL

I created this resource to teach my Speech therapy students how to interpret humor and jokes. Many of my language-delayed students do not understand why simple riddle jokes are funny, as they lack flexible thinking and vocabulary when it comes to these types of literary devices.

Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of resources on this topic so I had to re-invent the wheel. I put great effort into this, so I figured why not share it with the rest of the TPT community?

In purchasing this packet, you will receive the following PDF formats:
• A collection of 208 Riddle Jokes in two separate formats:
-- On colorful 3.6” X 2.6” frames (8 of them blank to create your own) – 24 pages
--On 4”x1-1.5” black and white cut out strips – 12 pages

•A step by step guide to analyzing and comprehending Riddle Jokes in two separate formats:
--A paper handout (8 pages)
--A 17-slide Powerpoint presentation for classroom use (make sure you have the program!)

•A blank worksheet /written organizer for students to guide them through the process of analyzing jokes

•4 sample worksheets to guide the teacher / therapist on how the questions should be answered

This packet is probably most applicable with older students (upper elementary, middle school, high school, adult ESL/ELL classrooms), due to the complexity of the subject. This would be a great unit to use with older students on the Autism Spectrum.

However, the jokes could be utilized to serve multiple purposes, i.e. for articulation practice, for fun, etc. I love using jokes to work on generalization of Speech sounds! This might be a great unit for April Fool's Day!

All of the jokes are clean and kid-friendly!
