What educators are saying
My students loved using this resource as a closing activity for the Fairy Tales/Tall Tales Domain. They were very engaged and truly enjoyed created Paul Bunyan, John Henry, and Pecos Bill. It was a great activity to review with before the test as well.
This was a fun culminating activity for my students! Thank you! I would love it if you could add Casey Jones!
Description
If you are looking for some activities to put a little spin on your current tall tale study, this unit will be a perfect supplemental resource. This unit adds a little spice to the everyday literature study. During these activities, the students will use close reading strategies to identify a purpose for reading. Then, they will be given a task during literature circles to collect evidence and events from the tale to take back to a group. As the group members report, the students will create a story map for five different tall tale heroes. Take a look at the preview to see a step-by-step of instruction as well as the tall tale heroes included in this unit. You will find everything you need to create a focus wall for your study, as well as all patterns and resources needed to help your students create some pretty unique story maps! I have also included 9 character maps to match additional tall tale heroes to expand your study.
