What educators are saying

Teacher had asked me to help students communicate with one another because there have been lots of peer conflict issues. This was helpful to teach students about using I-Statements during conversations/disagreements with their peers.

Description

Easy grab-and-go counseling lesson to teach kids how to use a simple sentence frame for talking out problems: “I don’t like when you _______________. Can you please ____________.” Includes ASCA lesson plan, worksheet, optional book list, and google slides. Lesson involves discussion, skills practice, an activity, and examples to practice.

This lesson is super simple - just put on the google slides and work through the easy discussion questions. Very low prep for all you super busy counselors out there!

Booklist is included for an optional list of books to choose from on sharing to open your lesson - though this is not required and the lesson still works without it.

Lesson Objectives:

  • Students will be able to demonstrate how to use an “I statement” to talk out a problem with a peer.

ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors:

  • B-SS 1. Effective oral and written communication skills and  listening skills
  • B-SS 2. Positive, respectful and supportive relationships with students who are similar to and different from them
