Description

Assess comprehension through a review of the grammar and vocabulary derived from one of Judy Blume's best-loved novels, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

Included in this digital download:

• R-E-A-D worksheets (Chapters 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10)

Grammar review includes a/an, common spelling errors, compound words, parallelism, punctuation, homophones, common and proper nouns, possessive noun forms, ordering adjectives, prepositions, phrasal verbs, subjects and predicates, irregular verbs, the simple present tense, the simple past tense, coordinating conjunctions in compound sentences and subordinating conjunctions in complex sentences.

This is an ideal way to review grammar once your students have read the book and a unique way to ensure comprehension within the context of an enjoyable story. Your students might be laughing so hard at Fudge's antics that they don't even realize they are reviewing grammar!

Through the novel work, students will revisit the text to analyze the grammar which naturally derives from the story. All items are original with the exception of quotes from the novel. These quotes have been specifically selected to illustrate the grammar being practiced. There is some review of terminology and a Do Now so that students practice the grammar point as a class before moving on to the exercise. The R-E-A-D worksheets can be used as an assessment tool, homework or group work. Assign students one from each column or all 16 items for those who can go above and beyond.

The answer keys provide some additional explanation and support for the teacher.

Use these worksheets and activities:

• In Literature Circles. When you have groups working at different paces, this will be a useful way for your fast-finishers to spend their time.

• As part of your emergency substitute file. If your students have read the book, keep this handy so that they use their time wisely when you are out of the classroom.

• As extra credit: Make the extra work you ask students to do count.

• Before a writing assignment: Use them to review how to proofread and connect ideas into well-written sentences.
