Description

Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester is a fun winter book. It is about a penguin who is an odd bird, but a very nice bird to have around!

This unit has an easy craftivity that includes a writing prompt. It makes a cute bulletin board display!

*All patterns for Tacky the Penguin (black and white, copy on colored paper or scrapbooking paper. Also includes a colored version of Tacky’s clothes).

*Writing prompt—What makes you special?

Also included in this unit is a response journal. There are 15 possible page choices. You choose the ones that best suit the needs of your students (I usually choose about 4 pages for the journals).

Included in the journal pages are:

*Journal Cover

*Title, Author, Characters, Setting—with optional pieces for students to glue in correct area

*Creativity—Create an odd bird. Give two reasons why your bird is unique.

*Beginning, Middle, End—Students can draw and/or write their response words in BME sections.

*Text to Self Connection—What is something is something you like to do?

*Text to Self Connection—What is something that makes you special?

*Character Web of Tacky

*Making Predictions—What will Tacky do next?
