Description

After reading The Odyssey with your class, show the movie and give your students these questions to guide their thinking during the film (1997 version with Armand Assante and Vanessa Williams).

Answer Key:

5. If the Telemachus has a beard on his face and Odysseus has not yet returned, she must choose another (remarry).

14. The god of the wind gives Odysseus a sack of the East/North/South winds so that the remaining West wind will blow him and his men back home to Ithaca.

36. The winner must first string the bow and then shoot an arrow cleanly through all twelve axes in order to win Penelope’s hand in marriage.

37. When the beggar shoots the arrow through all the axes, he turns back into the younger Odysseus.

38. Antinous is speared to a wall by Telemachus.

39. The maid comes out of the maidchamber to let the suitors out and is shot with an arrow along with Eurymachus. In the book, the disloyal maids are made to cleanse the chamber and then killed.

40. Penelope is his world.
