What educators are saying

I used this as supplemental material for my gifted 4th and 5th graders. It was a good resource for evaluating Ted Talks already produced.

Description

Teach public speaking and speech writing with this lesson that challenges students to present TED Talks. Existing TED Talks serve as mentor texts, which students view, analyze, and evaluate before using the writing process to create their own. Print-and-go handouts guide students through their discussion, planning, peer review, editing, and rehearsal. An editable slide and MS Word document is included for the final assignment, so you can customize the assessment for your students’ needs. This assignment makes learning oral presentation skills engaging and interesting. Updated version now has a link to a Google Slides presentation.

The resource includes the following:

  • teacher instructions
  • TED talk analysis worksheets
  • graphic organizers
  • final assignment
  • peer review and revision handouts
  • proofreading checklist
  • rubric
  • link to Google slides

This no-prep activity can be used as a summative assessment or mini-project for oral communications classes and other ELA courses.
