Description

Understanding word relationships, including synonyms and antonyms, is an important part of the Common Core standards for ELA and a frequent goal for students in speech therapy and special education. This unit was designed with frequently used vocabulary in mind, along with some of their common and uncommon synonyms and antonyms.

1 - Sorting Activities (2) | 1. match pairs of synonyms and pairs of synonyms/antonyms;

2. choosing whether the underlined words in two different sentences are synonyms or antonyms

2 - Choose the Right Answer Worksheets (6) | choosing the correct synonym or antonym to match or correct the sentence

3 - Give Me the Right Answer Worksheets (6) | identify whether the stated relationship is true or false

4 - Fill in the Blank (5) | complete the sentence with a synonym or an antonym

5 - Compare and Contrast (5) | compare and contrast pairs of near synonyms

6 - Find the Word, Choose the Answer Story-based Activity (1) | identify incorrectly used words within a story, then use the accompanying worksheet to choose the correct word by identifying it's antonym

7 - Sticky Note Answers | choose two vocabulary words (vocabulary cards provided), then write whether those words are a pair of synonyms or antonyms

8 - Draw Your Own | choose two vocabulary words (vocabulary cards provided), then draw an example of your words, distinguishing between whether the words are synonyms or antonyms

9 - Narrative Writing (1) | write a silly story by purposefully using antonyms for some words and coming up with synonyms for others

10 - Task Cards (18) | identify synonyms/antonyms for given words, create sentences using synonyms/antonyms for words
