Super Teens- Teen Number Book
- PDF
Description
Teaching teen numbers and place value associated with teen numbers to kindergarteners can be a daunting task. This book was created and used to help make it a little bit easier!
Using the same format from one number to the next and a clear, crisp, easy to read and see structure, kids are set up for success from page 1. The use of valuable math tools (ten frames, number lines) and easy to read numbers (i.e. fonts that write numbers "the kindergarten way!") make this tool invaluable in supporting young students as they build numeracy, math fluency, and essential understandings in mathematics.
This book is set up such that you could do a "teen number of the day" (thus the "2 week" time period under duration) to introduce teen numbers or you could use it later in the unit to review, assess, or even reteach to students who are struggling. If you do not use it as a number of the day type of activity, I imagine each page taking a child anywhere from 5-15 minutes, depending on the skill level of the child, whether or not this is whole group, guided practice, or independent, and how much work you have done with teen numbers prior to using it. The possibilities (and benefits!) are endless.
Pages include:
- a fun (but not overbearing) superhero theme with both boy and girl superheroes
- a large teen number featured at the top left of each page
- space for the student to practice writing the teen number on each page
- ten frames for the student to practice representing the teen number by drawing in this tool each day
- a set of 20 super hero stars so students can represent the teen number by coloring the indicated number of stars each day
- a number line with some empty spaces so students can fill in the missing teen numbers each day
- a box so students can draw in a number of objects to represent the teen number each day
- scaffolds such as pencils and crayons at each task to help students know whether they need to write or draw for each response
What's Included:
- clear teacher directions for use
- 2 possible covers for the book: one in color, one in black and white
- 9 student work pages- 1 each for numbers 11-19
- activated in TPT easel to make teaching and projecting in Student View to your SMARTboard, etc. easier (highly recommended)
While I used these with kindergarteners and they align most closely with K standards, I do think these could be used with PK students who are showing interest and proclivity toward teen number work at the end of the PK year or with 1st graders who may be struggling with this concept.
Thank you for considering this product. I hope you will find that it can help you with this tricky, but all important math learning!
